Salt not as bad as previously thought? Sounds familiar…

Last week an Op-Ed piece appeared in the New York Times discussing how we may have misjudged the impact of sodium on health. Reading through it, TheFatNurse couldn’t help but notice some similarities to the war on fat. Its all related to how experiments are conducted and how data is interpreted. Definitely worth a read whether or not you agree with its conclusions.

  1. I read the report but think back to patient care, there are some patients who are so fraqile a small over indulgance in sodium puts them right into CHF, with increased BP being a very noticable symptom. Others can tolerate high dosages with no problem. I think it is difficult to give a one size fits all blanket recommendation. Often I would see people who’s BP’s were so low we encouraged them to add the sodium back into the diet, especially if they strenuously exercised or worked, to keep them from being symptomatic.
